De Zeven Provincien model ship and the history of the real ship

In the early 1660s, the commercial rivalry between English and Dutch merchants that culminated in the Anglo-Dutch War of 1652-54 was reignited.  In view of this, the Dutch undertook a major building program and the De Zeven Provincien model ship is an exact replica of the real Zeven Provincien, which was one of the largest and most impressive vessels launched.

De Zeven Provincien model ship and the real battles

At the end of Anglo-Dutch ‘Four Days' Battle’ in June 1652, the Zeven Provincien’s rigging was shot up and she was ultimately completely dismasted.  During the War of the League of Augsburg on 29 May 1692 she was heavily damaged at the battle of La Hogue and returned to Rotterdam, where she was broken up two years later. A replica, basically a larger version of our De Zeven Provincien model ship, is currently under construction in the Netherlands.   Contact us now for more information on our De Zeven Provincien model ship.
