The Model Shipyard Builds Museum Quality Model Ships

The Model Shipyard builds replica model ships but ignore for a moment the connotation that term may have for you.  When we say “replica model ships”, this is what we mean.  In other words, not approximate imitations, not similar-looking models and not poor quality Chinese bulk imports.  No, rather replicas, true to the original down to the lofting, fitting, rigging and paint colours.

A replica is always exactly true to the original; otherwise we cannot call them replicas.  This is why we spend so much time researching the old ladies of the sea, carefully scrutinising their plans, their stories and any footage and photos that we may be able to find of them, piecing together the puzzle until we know exactly what they had looked like.  For the intricate metal and brass fittings, we employ a full-time fine artist that sculpts these parts in oversize clay and scales them down to the correct size with an old-fashioned 3D pantograph.  This is an example of our attention to detail and commitment to techniques that yield the most satisfying results.

This is also why it may take ten weeks to finish a model ship, but we will keep you updated on the progress and even send you pictures.  Be sure to let us know well in advance if you need it as a gift, so that we can work towards and attainable date.  We would not rush the work or slacken our quality control to finish a model more quickly.

The Model Shipyard is in the business of lovingly creating genuine replica model ships, entirely true to the original.  For more information on our model ships, visit our website or contact us.
