The Model Shipyard builds only handcrafted model ships.  If you are looking for a cheap, bulk Chinese import or a ship whose parts come out of a box, we gracefully decline.  Our handcrafted model ships are not cheap, they are not approximate imitations and they are not finished in a week.  Rather, you will wait for eight to ten weeks, after which we will show you why quality takes time.

We have found that we can use no parts that come in model ship kits.  Their scale is often wrong and their attention to detail poor.  One of the most important marks of quality is the brass and metal fittings on the ship and we regret that we have not come across anybody that can supply us with these parts at a quality that meets our requirements.  That is why we employ a full-time fine artist to painstaking make all these parts for us.  The rigging is also very important and here we pay very close attention to ensure that we use ropes of the same type, texture and colour.  Even the knots do not escape us; they are of the same number and type as the original ship’s.

The computer age has brought some advances, but our ships are still constructed by the hands of gifted artists.  The models are surfaced with the finest mahogany and they are very solidly constructed to ensure that they do not distort, even in the hottest and most humid climates – our ships are so sought-after that we end up sending them right over the globe.
