A Model War Ship From The Model ShipyardA model war ship of a few hundred years old is a fascinating reminder of what the world had looked like and the haphazard means by which wars were waged on the high seas. The Model Shipyard makes precise replica model war ship creations from ships that, in many cases, do not exist anymore, having been sunk in battle or was lost by other means. One such example is the HMS Serapis, which we build as a splendid, 1-metre long replica in 1:78 scale. It was launched in 1779 by the Royal Navy and was armed with 44 guns. It engaged the USS Bonhomme Richard in the Battle of Flamborough Head, England. Bonhomme Richard sank, but Serapis sustained substantial damage and was later declared a French capture. The French then commissioned it to a privateer named Roche to use along with the British in the Indian Ocean. However, in a bizarre turn of events, the ship was lost in 1781 off the coast of Madagascar when a sailor accidentally dropped a lantern into a vat of brandy. The resultant fire could not be contained and an explosion blew the stern off the ship when the fire had reached a powder magazine. Other war ships, like the famous USS Institution, survive to this day (in fact, the Constitution is the oldest commissioned war ship in the world that is still afloat). The Model Shipyard builds replicas of all these ships and our meticulous attention to detail extends to the thickness of the ropes and the lifelike originality of the fittings, which we make ourselves. Our sails seem to be billowing in the wind – we designed and built a special machine to form our sails. Get a beautiful model war ship from The Model Shipyard today. Contact us.
