USS Model Ships
If you are a shipbuilding enthusiast or even a collector of valuable model ships and are looking for USS model ships, then The Model Shipyard has a variety for you to choose from.
The Model Shipyard stocks the following USS model ships:
- USS Constitution: This is an American Frigate model ship. The original ship that this miniature is modelled on was built in Boston and was used to defend the young Americans. On the 21 October 1797 she was launched. She only set sail for the first time in 1798. This ship still floats as part of the US Navy and is the oldest war ship in the world.
- USS Essex: This particular miniature was modelled on the original that was built in Essex, Massachusetts by the citizens. She set sail for the first time during the Quasi war in 1800. This ship was used for war and transportation up until 1823 when she was used as a convict ship. This particular ship has a very colourful and vivid history behind it.
- USS Rattlesnake: This is an American Privateer and is modelled on the original that was designed by a Naval architect called John Peck. She was intended for revolutionary war and carried 20 guns and up to 85 men. Her design was slightly unconventional in that she has a separate quarter deck and forecastle – most unusual features for any privateer. The original USS Rattlesnake is currently in Florida and is being restored and repaired by the Maritime Heritage Foundation.
The Model Shipyard doesn’t just supply these model ships to interested parties and enthusiasts. They have actually taken the time to understand the design of the ship and how it actually sailed all those years
ago. Their passion and enthusiasm for shipbuilding and perfection definitely shows on the end results of each of their pieces.
