If you think that model ships are basically just exquisitely detailed versions of real ships, you will have to think again, because while many genuine model ship builders are very serious about the intense process involved and the careful planning and huge attention to detail that goes into this intricate activity, there are other ship builders who are scams; they quickly, without any passion involved, buy cheap mass produced models from China or Mauritius, adapt them a bit and then try and sell them off as museum quality, but they are inaccurate and have no collectors’ value whatsoever.

The skills learned by building model ships have allowed many craftsmen to become well rewarded experts within the field, and amongst Model Ship Yard's craftsmen are accountants, historians, teachers, carpenters, fine artists etc – people who build ships because they love it ... have a deep passion for it and build them piece for piece and to strict specification when someone has commissioned them to build one of these masterpieces; in fact they become so involved with the building of these ships; they experience some of what the ship builders may have had going through their minds five hundred years ago.
